More Information
Please join us in welcoming Michelle Li to the position of humanities and social sciences librarian!
We asked her a few questions about her new role:
What goals do you have for this year as our new humanities and social sciences librarian?
I hope to connect with folks in the campus libraries, faculty members, and the thriving student community at UCLA. UCLA is my alma mater, and I’m excited to work behind the scenes to help provide an engaging and safe learning environment on campus!
How has your prior experience prepared you for this role at UCLA Library?
My background is in Japanese and linguistics and Asian languages & culture with a modern Japanese track from UCLA, and I previously worked at Emerson College as their first year engagement librarian. My MLIS degree is from University of Washington, where I also worked as a research and learning services specialist for two years. My professional interests include accessibility, inclusion and gamification of student learning outcomes.
What projects will you be tackling first?
I will be first establishing a collaborative relationship with the Linguistics department on campus, and getting situated with the functional teams within the Library space as well.
What are you currently reading/watching/listening to? What do you like to do outside of work?
I am currently watching the anime "Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill" and similar to what this show entails, I enjoy cooking, baking, and going on food adventures during my free time. I’m always open to food recommendations in the SoCal area, please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions!
What is your preferred name and what are your pronouns?
My preferred name is Michelle (or Michelle L. since there are two Michelles at the Charles E. Young Research Library now), and my pronouns are she/her.
