Please join us in welcoming Staci Hogsett! Staci is the new head of Collection Services at the UCLA Film & Television Archive. In order to introduce you, we asked her a few questions:
What goals do you have for this year in your new role?
I am excited for the opportunity to continue my work stewarding the Archive’s collection of moving images. I am planning to familiarize myself with the vault organization and will strive to keep the department running smoothly. I am also looking forward to collaborating with other Archive and Library colleagues.
How has your prior experience prepared you for this role at the UCLA Library?
I have worked in the Collection Services department at the Archive for seven years, managing the circulation and tracking of materials, processing collections, and ensuring that the department follows the strict nitrate regulations for transportation and storage. I have shaped many of the workflows currently used by the department and I am very familiar with the Archive’s collection and with its processes. I am also a graduate of the UCLA Moving Image Archives Studies program, which helped to create a good theoretical foundation for me as I embarked on my career.
What projects will you be tackling first?
I plan to build on the past work of the department by continuing to develop and smooth out our workflows. Collection Services has had a lot of staffing changes in the past year and though I’ve been sad to see many colleagues go, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to reassess the needs of the department.
What do you like to do outside of work? And/or What are you currently reading/watching/listening to?
I am currently reading The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich. I recently finished the series Derry Girls and I am excited to start watching the second season of I Hate Suzie. Outside of work I enjoying reading, eating good food, sewing and other assorted craft projects, and spending time with my dog, Harvi.
