Dear Friends of UCLA Library,
I am honored to return to UCLA Library as Norman and Armena Powell University Librarian. First and foremost, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for your unwavering support and dedication to advancing our mission. Your generosity has been instrumental in shaping UCLA Library into a vibrant hub of knowledge and discovery, and it is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to building upon this foundation together.
As we begin this new era, I am committed to ensuring that UCLA Library remains at the forefront of innovation and accessibility, and that we center inclusive excellence in all we do. By aligning resource stewardship with strategic planning, and with the integration of new technologies and approaches into our work, UCLA Library will shine as a beacon of intellectual exploration, a setting for advanced learning, and a catalyst for transformative scholarship.
Among my primary goals is to foster a culture of collaboration within our Bruin community. I believe that by harnessing the collective expertise and passion of UCLA campus leaders, faculty, staff, students and donors, we can achieve the remarkable and propel our Library to new heights of inclusive excellence. I am also deeply committed to ensuring that our libraries remain accessible to all members of our diverse community. By removing barriers to access, enhancing physical infrastructure, expanding digital resources, and building collections that reflect inclusive approaches, the Library reaffirms its commitment to the principles of equity and inclusion that lie at the heart of UCLA’s mission.
None of this is possible without our talented team across the Library, a group whose collective endeavors and individual flourishing are critical to our success. As we strengthen our efforts within the Library, all those who engage with us will benefit greatly.
I extend my sincere appreciation for your continued support and partnership. I am truly excited to embark on this journey with you as we empower generations of scholars to come.
With warm regards,
Athena N. Jackson
