Donald O. Walter Endowed Collection of Monographs in the History and Philosophy of Science

Researcher, teacher, jazz musician — Donald O. Walter was a man of wide interests. After receiving his doctorate in physiology with a background in applied mathematics, he delved into a career as a researcher, specializing in neurophysiology, especially in the statistical analysis of the electroencephalogram (EEG). Throughout his career, he had an unquestionable thirst for knowledge that often led him beyond his immediate work, most notably in the area of the history and philosophy of science. Upon his retirement, Professor Walter was able to expand upon his interests, spending hours at the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library researching and studying. He passed away in 2001. To honor her late husband and in support of his intellectual interests, Pat Walter established the Donald O. Walter Endowed Collection of Monographs in the History and Philosophy of Science in the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library. A multi-disciplinary endowment, it supports the acquisition, access, preservation and processing of primary and secondary monographs in the history and philosophy of science, with special emphasis on evolution, the brain and cognition, and statistics for medical research; online access to databases of monographs may also be supported.
