Ernest Dawson Memorial Fund for Books about Books

Ernest Dawson, the quintessential bookman, began working in a Los Angeles bookshop before he had finished high school; he opened his own bookstore when he was in his early twenties. While Dawson's Book Shop specializes in rare and secondhand books, it also publishes small editions of attractively printed books relating to Western America and the history of books. When Mr. Dawson died in 1947, his friends established the Ernest Dawson Memorial Fund for Books About Books so that the UCLA Library could purchase books about books. Carrying on their father's work, sons Glen and Muir Dawson, with grandson Michael, have ensured that Dawson's Book Shop on Larchmont Boulevard continues to be a mainstay of the L.A. antiquarian book world.
