Henny and Rudolph Engelbarts Fund

The Henny and Rudolph Engelbarts Fund was established with a generous bequest from the Henny Engelbarts Estate. Born in Germany, the Engelbarts immigrated to California in the early 1930s. Mr. Engelbarts pursued his education at the UC Berkeley, where he earned a doctorate in German literature in 1937. In 1941, he began his career at the UCLA Library as an assistant cataloger, and from the late 1950s to the mid-60s, Mr. Engelbarts served as head of cataloging. During his years of service at the UCLA Library, he wrote several books and many journal articles, including a bibliographic essay about prison libraries and books written by prisoners and prison employees. The Henny and Rudolph Engelbarts Fund supports acquisitions and processing of collections in two distinct areas. One is works published in and relating to continental Africa. The second is white-collar crime and criminology. With this endowment gift, Mr. Engelbart's widow, Henny, honored her husband's long career at the Library and his lifelong commitment to the development of its collections.
