Henry J. Bruman Endowed Collection Development Fund
This endowment supports and helps maintains the materials of the Henry J. Bruman Maps and Government Information Library.
Professor Emeritus Henry J. Bruman served as chairman of the Geography Department at UCLA from 1957 to 1966. He long augmented his considerable scholarly contributions to UCLA with important philanthropic support for the university, creating an extraordinary legacy. With this gift he established a substantial collection endowment to maintain and augment the collections of the Henry J. Bruman Maps and Government Information Library, now part of the Charles E. Young Research Library. The Henry J. Bruman Endowed Collection Development Fund provides a valuable complement to the Alexander von Humboldt Chair in Geography, which Professor Bruman also established. In commenting on the relationship between these remarkable resources, Professor Bruman noted: "Just as the mission of the chair is to stimulate a synthetic, integrative approach to geography, so should the Maps and Government Information Library have the support necessary to fully explore the fundamental interdependence of humans and the environment."
