Library of Architecture and Allied Arts of Los Angeles Endowment Fund

The Library of Architecture and Allied Arts of Los Angeles (LAAALA) was established by the Allied Arts Association of Los Angeles in the 1920s and was dedicated to art, design, architecture, engineering and related disciplines. In 1967 the original LAAALA Library, consisting of 4,500 volumes, was transferred to the Architecture and Urban Planning Library at UCLA. That library has since been incorporated into the Arts Library, which serves students and faculty in architecture/urban design, and the Henry J. Bruman Maps and Government Information Library now part of Collections, Research and Instructional Services in the Charles E. Young Research Library, which supports scholarship and research in urban planning. In 1986, the LAAALA Board dissolved its corporation and gave its assets to the Regents of the University of California to form an endowment fund to support the activities, acquisitions and purposes of the UCLA Library in the fields of architecture and urban planning. By enriching library collections, this gift benefits students and faculty in the School of the Arts and Architecture and the Luskin School of Public Affairs and simultaneously enhances the availability of resources for the study of architecture and planning in the greater L.A. area.
