The Dr. Judd Marmor Collection Endowment in Psychiatry

Dr. Judd Marmor's role as a major figure in the fields of psychiatry and psychoanalysis spanned more than sixty years. UCLA professor emeritus, psychiatrist, author and past president of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Marmor devoted his professional life to progressive, forward-thinking psychiatry — especially to changing the way lesbian and gay individuals are treated and diagnosed within psychiatry. He was among the first to question stereotypes used to define homosexuality by psychiatrists and others in society and was determined to end discrimination against lesbian and gay people within the psychiatric community. The author of eight books and more than three hundred papers on psychiatry, Dr. Marmor worked tirelessly throughout his career to promote the understanding of personality and development through therapeutic psychiatric practices. The Dr. Judd Marmor Collection Endowment in Psychiatry supports the acquisition, preservation and processing of materials in the field of psychiatry for the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library. With this fund, the Biomedical Library is able to expand its collection of psychiatry holdings and acquire important treatises on the subject for the use of students, faculty and medical and psychology professionals.
